Spa

The Spa & Ayurvedic Retreat:

The 2.5 acre Spa and Ayurvedic Retreat stretches from the heart of the island to the middle of the lagoon. Two Ayurvedic Physicians, a resident yogi and highly specialised team of therapists offer authentic healing and education from ten land and sea-based treatment pavilions and a yoga deck. All-inclusive 7-, 14- and 21-day Ayurvedic Immersions and authentic ayurvedic therapies are complemented by a full spa menu. The Spa also runs specialist week-long retreats several times a year in conjunction with Ila-Spa.

Spa therapies use the naturally-derived products of ila. Ayurvedic therapies use a range of ayurvedic herbs and medicinal plants picked fresh from the Herbal Garden; these include basil, castor, lime, ark, ginger, bala, mahabala, neem, coriander, aloe vera and Indian dill. Each of the three open-air treatment pavilions in the Ayurvedic Retreat is set within its own tropical garden and furnished with a droni (an ayurvedic treatment table) carved from a single piece of medicinal wood from the Jackfruit tree. Each pavilion also contains al fresco herbal bathtubs, steam benches, areas for mud treatments and carved day bed.

All Resort guests are offered a complimentary dosha-determining consultation during their visit. Guests are also invited to visit and spend time in the Herbal Centre to learn more about the various oils and herbal remedies and physical, nutritional and emotional benefits of the Ayurvedic process.

Activities

Diving:
Maldives is known internationally as one of the world’s best dive destinations. The Resort’s 5-star PADI IDC Dive Centre is run by a multilingual team of professionals. Its isolated location in the Baa Atoll’s UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve places guests in close proximity to many virgin dive sites, with 30 beautiful coral gardens within easy reach. It is also just 20 minutes by speedboat from Hanifaru Bay – one of the best places in the world to swim with mass gatherings of manta rays and whale sharks (June to October).

Marine Discovery Centre:
Landaa’s Marine Discovery Centre (MDC) is an interactive research and education centre designed to guide guests and locals alike through the underwater world of the Maldives and the Resort’s efforts to conserve it. The Centre uses multi-language touch screen video kiosks, dramatic photography, exhibition boards, educational talks, life-size models and interaction with marine biologists to educate its visitors. Image-clad windows create the impression of being amongst a giant shoal of fish. The Centre also has a dedicated children’s area with touch tank and interactive activities.

Hanifaru Bay:
Hanifaru Bay is a natural wonder of the underwater world. From June to October, seasonal tides and the bay’s steep sides trap rich concentrations of plankton that attract manta rays and whale sharks from all over the Maldives; and because these spectacular creatures swim to the surface to feed, it’s just as easy for snorkellers to experience the thrill of the feast, involving anything from 20 manta rays up to 150 mantas and several whale sharks at a time.

Water Sports Centre:
The Water Sports Centre offers a wide range of group and individual activities. Non-motorized activities are complimentary and include kayaking, snorkelling, windsurfing, single sail and catamaran sailing. Lessons in windsurfing and sailing can be given by VDWS certified instructors on request. Additional motorized activities such as water-skiing, parasailing, kite surfing, banana-boating and fun tube are available at a charge.

Recreation Centre:
The Recreation Centre comprises the following:
The Health Club – It is equipped with the latest strength and cardiovascular equipment with personal TV and headphones. There is also a floodlit tennis court.

Majaa Maizan Young Adults’ Club – An entertainment lounge for young adults aged 13 to 18, equipped with pool table, table-football, table-tennis, PlayStation console, plasma screen television, internet access, magazines and parlour games. The Club is open from 9.00 am to 9.00 pm daily.

Kuda Velaa Kids’ Club – The Children’s Club keeps the Resort’s youngest guests entertained throughout their holiday with an action-packed programme featuring beach and outdoor activities, creative crafts and games that are fun, educational and culturally enriching. Kids’ programmes include sessions with the Resort’s Yogi and Marine Biologist to back-of-house tours and ice-cream making with the Chef. It is open from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm daily. Children’s menus are also available in all restaurants.

The Library – Housed in a comfortable lounge, it is located on the first floor of the Recreation Centre and offers treetop views of the island. It features a variety of books, magazines and parlour games as well a refreshment counter. Laptops with wireless internet access are available for rent.

Swimming Pools:
There are four swimming pools at the Resort. The spectacular Olympic size 50m main pool on the northern shore of the island has a swim-up bar, spacious sundeck and private gazebos. A free-flow children’s pool with parent observation area is located nearby, in the Kuda Velaa Kids’ Club. Adjacent to the main pool is the 20m wide ‘floating’ seawater pool, whilst the romantic sunset pool, an idyllic pool for couple relaxation is located on the western tip of the island at Blu restaurant overlooking the stunning 2km lagoon.

Retail:
The Resort has the following retail outlets:
The Resort Shop features a wide range of fashion and beachwear, accessories, jewellery, gifts, souvenirs, arts & crafts, books, magazines and other merchandise.

The Dive Retail Shop is located at the dive centre and sells dive wear and equipment as well as accessories and dive souvenirs.

The Spa Shop is found at the Spa reception and includes a range of lotions, oils, books, bathrobes, slippers and incense.
