ananea Madivaru Maldives has appointed Pierre Leif Edlund as General Manager, bringing an experienced international hospitality leader back to the Maldives. The appointment, effective from July 2026, marks Edlund’s return to the destination after two years in Bangkok.
Originally from Sweden, Edlund has built a hospitality career across Europe, the Middle East, Thailand and the Maldives, with a strong focus on luxury resorts, lifestyle hospitality and operational leadership.
An Experienced Maldives Hospitality Leader
Edlund returns to the Maldives after serving as General Manager of Chatrium Grand Bangkok, a 562-room luxury hotel, for two years.
His previous Maldives experience includes senior management positions at some of the destination’s renowned resorts. He served as Resort Manager at One&Only Reethi Rah from 2023 to 2024, following more than two years as Resort Manager at Niyama Private Islands Maldives.
Earlier in his career, Edlund was Resort Manager in-charge at lti Maafushivaru Maldives and Assistant Director of Operations at Kuramathi Maldives.
With his extensive experience across resort operations, guest experience and team leadership, Edlund will oversee the continued development and day-to-day operations of ananea Madivaru Maldives.
A Contemporary Approach to Luxury Hospitality
Edlund’s leadership philosophy centres on creating a more personal and relaxed interpretation of luxury. His view that “luxury should feel effortless” places human connection, thoughtful service and attention to detail at the heart of the guest experience.
His hands-on leadership approach also focuses on continuous development, both in strengthening the resort experience and supporting the growth of its people.
This philosophy aligns closely with ananea’s concept of “slow glamour”, which combines relaxed minimalism, contemporary design and meaningful connections with the local environment and culture.
Discovering ananea Madivaru Maldives
Located in North Ari Atoll, ananea Madivaru Maldives began operations in April 2025. The resort spans two islands connected by an overwater walkway and is surrounded by a lagoon and house reef.
The property features 111 beach and overwater villas and residences across 11 categories, with private pools incorporated throughout its accommodation collection. Guests can also enjoy a 65-metre infinity pool, Paradise Beach Club, a kids’ club and the overwater Kandu Spa.
Dining is another defining element of the resort, with nine restaurants and two bars offering a wide range of international flavours. Culinary concepts include Maldivian, Thai, Korean and Indian cuisine at Asian Food Street, Mediterranean dining at Luna, Japanese teppanyaki at Ikigai, Nikkei cuisine at Flores, and seafood and grilled specialities at The Flame.

With Pierre Leif Edlund at the helm, ananea Madivaru Maldives enters its next phase with an experienced leader whose career combines international hotel management with extensive knowledge of the Maldivian resort landscape.
