In celebration of World Tourism Day 2026, Angsana Velavaru welcomed eight students and three teachers from nearby Hulhudheli for an educational visit focused on tourism, hospitality, sustainability and marine conservation.
Introducing the Next Generation to Maldivian Tourism
Ahead of World Tourism Day on 27 September, the visit connected young islanders with the realities of working in the Maldives tourism industry. Students toured different resort departments, discovering the roles, skills and teamwork involved in creating a memorable guest experience while learning about the diverse career opportunities available in hospitality.

Sustainability in Everyday Resort Operations
Sustainability was a central part of the programme. Students explored Angsana Velavaru’s waste management and resource conservation initiatives, including waste segregation, reduction, reuse and recycling. The experience demonstrated how everyday actions by both resort teams and guests can help reduce environmental impact and support a healthier island environment.
Protecting the Maldives Marine Environment
At the resort’s Marine Lab, students also learned about the importance of coral reefs and their role in supporting marine ecosystems. Angsana Velavaru’s conservation programme includes two coral rope nurseries and a coral garden in the lagoon, alongside coral planting and reef-cleaning activities.
The visit highlighted how responsible tourism can work hand in hand with environmental conservation. By giving students first-hand insight into resort operations and sustainability initiatives, Angsana Velavaru aims to inspire future tourism professionals while encouraging the next generation to become active stewards of the Maldives’ natural environment.
As the Maldives tourism industry continues to evolve through innovation, technology and responsible practices, initiatives like this help strengthen the connection between resorts and local communities.
