Avani+ Fares Maldives Resort has appointed Magdalena Martorell as its new General Manager, bringing more than two decades of international hospitality experience to the resort in Baa Atoll.

Originally from Spain, Martorell has built an extensive career across Europe and Asia, with more than 10 years of experience working in Asian resort destinations. Her background spans resort operations, commercial performance, guest experience and team leadership.
International Hospitality Experience
Martorell joins Avani+ Fares Maldives from Anantara Uluwatu Bali Resort, where she served as General Manager. Before moving to Bali, she spent four years as General Manager of MeliĆ” Phuket Mai Khao in Thailand.
Her career has focused heavily on resort environments, giving her experience in managing properties where guest engagement, team culture and destination-led experiences are central to the overall operation.
Her leadership approach places particular importance on the people behind the guest experience. She believes teams should have the confidence and freedom to bring their personalities into their work while maintaining strong operational and commercial standards.
At the properties she leads, Martorell is known for maintaining a visible presence, interacting directly with guests and team members and staying closely connected to daily resort operations.
Building the Avani+ Fares Maldives Experience
In her new role, Martorell will focus on building upon the existing identity of Avani+ Fares Maldives while continuing to develop its offering within Baa Atoll.
Her priorities include strengthening experiences across dining, wellness and recreation, while making greater use of the resort’s natural surroundings and marine environment.
Her personal interests in wellness, sport, the ocean and an active lifestyle also complement the resort’s focus on outdoor and marine experiences.
The new General Manager aims to combine Avani’s contemporary and energetic hospitality approach with the natural character of Fares Island, creating experiences that encourage guests to engage more closely with the destination.
Avani+ Fares Maldives in Baa Atoll
Located on Fares Island on the western edge of Baa Atoll, Avani+ Fares Maldives is situated within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
The resort opened in April 2023 as Avani Hotels & Resorts’ first property in the Maldives and is part of Minor Hotels.
The resort offers 176 accommodations, including pavilions, beach villas, overwater villas and residences. Its accommodation options cater to couples, families and larger groups, with multi-bedroom beach and overwater residences as well as villas featuring private pools.
Dining is available across seven restaurants and bars, including Ocean Terrace, The Skipjack Bar, Charcoal, Tribe and Smuggler’s Shack, while Petit Bistro provides a dedicated dining space for younger guests.
Guests can also access AvaniSpa, AvaniFit, water sports and diving facilities, together with dedicated children’s and teenagers’ clubs.
Exploring the Baa Atoll Marine Environment
The resort’s location provides access to the marine environment for which Baa Atoll is widely recognised.
Avani+ Fares Maldives features a 220-metre house reef and several dive sites accessible from the island. Nearby Hanifaru Bay is also known for its seasonal manta ray aggregations, offering another opportunity for guests to experience the biodiversity of the atoll.
This natural setting forms an important part of the resort’s experiential offering and provides opportunities for diving, snorkelling and other marine activities.
Continuing a Strong Award Record
Avani+ Fares Maldives has also continued to gain recognition within the Maldives tourism industry.
In August 2026, the resort was named Best Family Resort at the TTM Awards 2026, marking its third consecutive award at the event. The property previously received Best Dive Resort in 2024 and Best Beach Resort in 2025.
With Magdalena Martorell now leading the property, Avani+ Fares Maldives is set to continue developing its positioning across family travel, wellness, dining, recreation and marine experiences while building on its location within the Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
