The St. Regis Maldives Vommuli Resort hosted a charity run to raise funds for local orphanages.
Four guests and 95 employees of the resort participated in a 2.5 kilometre run on Sunday. Another 142 staff members and two guests as well as suppliers also contributed to the cause, raising a total of USD 6,748.
According to St. Regis Maldives, the proceeds will be used to purchase essential supplies and food needed by the children housed in the Children’s Home orphanage in Villimale and Fiyavathi orphanage in Hulhumale, suburbs of capital Male. Employment will also be offered to young adults in order to allow them to sustain their future on their own, it said.
Additionally, the resort is raising funds for the orphanages through the Just Giving Platform.
Meanwhile, Sheraton Maldives Full Moon Resort and Spa, another property run by parent company Marriott International, also held a Run to Give event of its own on Monday.
“Run to Give” is an initiative launched in 2014 by Starwood International, which has been acquired by Marriott. After the merger, Marriott also adopted the initiative to raise funds for charities in each of the hotel’s area or region.
