Eri Maldives has introduced a new creative experience with the launch of its first Beach Shack Artist Takeover, welcoming Maldivian artist Ismail Maaish to transform the resort’s popular beachfront venue into a vibrant expression of island life, marine culture and local creativity.

The collaboration brings art closer to the everyday resort experience, with Beach Shack becoming a living canvas inspired by the natural surroundings of the island and its house reef.
Ismail Maaish Brings the House Reef Above the Water
During the artist takeover, Ismail Maaish created an original mural at Beach Shack while sharing his creative process with resort guests.
Inspired by the underwater world surrounding Eri Maldives, the mural features a playful octopus wearing a bow tie and sunglasses while mixing cocktails among schools of fish. The artwork also connects with the plush octopus character that welcomes guests in their villas, creating a visual link between the resort’s identity and its surrounding marine environment.
The artwork reflects Maaish’s distinctive style, combining expressive characters and bold colours with elements of Maldivian culture and storytelling.
With a background in architecture, Maaish works across several artistic mediums, including ink, watercolour, acrylic and large-scale murals. His work explores themes connected to Maldivian folklore, island life, culture and identity, making the collaboration a natural fit for Eri Maldives.
Art, Culture and the Maldives Island Experience
The Beach Shack Artist Takeover is part of Eri Maldives’ wider approach to creating experiences that encourage guests to discover the island from different perspectives.
The resort’s house reef and marine environment provide an important source of inspiration for the project, while the mural brings elements of the underwater world into the social spaces of the resort.
According to Eri Maldives General Manager Haroon Mohamed, the initiative reflects the resort’s identity as “The Island of Becoming”, while providing local creative talent with a platform to share Maldivian perspectives with visitors.
For travellers, experiences such as these offer an opportunity to connect with the destination beyond its beaches and ocean scenery, introducing elements of contemporary Maldivian creativity into the resort environment.
Supporting Maldivian Creative Talent
The project was presented through Pulse Resorts’ KULA Initiative, which provides local artists with opportunities to showcase their work and cultural perspectives to a wider audience.
By incorporating Maldivian art into guest spaces, the initiative helps bring local creativity and heritage into contemporary island hospitality while giving visitors another way to engage with Maldivian culture.
The collaboration with Ismail Maaish also marks the beginning of an evolving creative platform at Eri Maldives.
More Beach Shack Artist Takeovers to Come
The Ismail Maaish collaboration is the first Beach Shack Artist Takeover, with the platform set to invite other artists and creative talents to reinterpret the beachfront venue through their individual artistic styles and crafts.
As the initiative develops, Beach Shack is set to become an evolving space where art, island culture, marine life and hospitality come together.
For travellers seeking a Maldives holiday that combines the destination’s natural surroundings with authentic cultural and creative experiences, initiatives such as the Beach Shack Artist Takeover add another layer to the contemporary island experience.
