From Soil to Table: Sustainability at Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives

January 4, 2025

Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives has taken a step toward sustainable living with the introduction of its very own organic farm. This initiative, launched in August 2024, is reshaping dining experiences and championing eco-conscious practices. Tucked amidst the island’s lush greenery, the organic farm provides guests with fresh, healthy produce grown just steps away from the resort’s kitchens.

The Vision Behind the Farm

The organic farm was established shortly after the arrival of the resort’s General Manager, Marlon Robert. His vision was clear: to provide fresher ingredients for both guests and staff while adopting sustainable farming practices. Today, guests at Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives can savor dishes featuring spinach, basil, watermelons, and pumpkins—all grown on-site.

Reflecting on the initiative, Marlon Robert stated, “Organic farming is a journey. The results we’ve achieved so far are promising, and we’re excited to see how this project evolves in the coming year.”

Sustainable Farming in Action

Creating a thriving organic farm on an island presented unique challenges, but the resort team embraced innovative and eco-friendly methods to ensure success:

  • Composting: Organic waste from the resort is repurposed into nutrient-rich compost to enhance soil quality.
  • Natural Pest Control: Chemical-free methods protect crops and maintain a healthy ecosystem.
  • Crop Rotation: This technique ensures soil fertility and reduces the risk of pests and diseases.

Immersive Guest Experiences

Guests are invited to connect with nature through guided farm tours. These tours provide insights into organic farming practices and the resort’s broader sustainability efforts. Future plans include culinary demonstrations, where freshly picked ingredients will be transformed into delicious dishes, offering visitors a hands-on experience of the farm-to-table concept.

Building on Success

This is the second organic farm initiative by Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts in the Maldives, following the success of the first farm at Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon. Both farms are part of a larger vision to promote sustainability while enhancing the guest experience.

Through workshops and immersive experiences, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts is not just cultivating produce but also fostering a culture of eco-conscious living, inspiring guests and staff alike to embrace a sustainable future.

Experience the taste of sustainability and witness the beauty of organic farming at Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives—a step toward greener hospitality.
