“Three days before the record I could just not hold my breath. We couldn’t even reach the existing
record – we weren’t even close.”
– Beth and Miles commented.
Beth Neale is a four-time South African Freedive Champion, and has a big amount of South African National Freediving and
African Continental records. Together with her partner Miles Cloutier and their one-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Neve, a couple travelled
to LUX* South Ari Atoll to celebrate the Day of Love and attempt the record on such a special occasion.
The underwater kiss lasted for 4 minutes 6 seconds beneath the water in an infinity pool and beat the previous record that lasted 3 minutes 24 seconds
set 13 years ago on Guinness World Records’ Italian TV show Lo Show dei Record.
The preparation for hitting the record started a couple of weeks before traveling to Maldives, however the nerves kicked it upon their arrival.
Even though Beth and Miles had an urge to swim to the surface and take in deep breath, by looking at each other they were able to find support
and fight it during the history-making moment.
According to Miles, it was a “hero’s journey of a breath hold.”
