Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa has concluded the second edition of the Maldives Hideaway Resort Run 2026, bringing together running, wellness and outdoor experiences on the natural island of Dhonakulhi.

Held on 18 September 2026 as part of World Wellness Weekend, the event welcomed 68 runners for a programme that combined competitive running with fitness, recovery and wellness activities surrounded by the turquoise waters and tropical landscapes of the Maldives.
Running Through the Island Landscape
The 2026 programme featured three island runs, including a relaxed shake-out run, allowing participants to experience the natural surroundings of Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa while taking part in the event.
Athletes Sunny Schippers and Clara Abbona led the 10K and 5K races respectively, inspiring participants throughout the island running programme.
The event offered both 5K and 10K categories, with trophies presented to the top three male and female finishers in each category.
First-place winners also received a scaled Maldivian flight model kit, adding a local touch to the race awards.
Wellness Beyond the Run
With the event taking place during World Wellness Weekend, the programme extended beyond running to include a range of wellness and fitness activities.
Participants experienced sound healing with Naga Healing, yoga sessions led by in-house instructor Shubham and fitness sessions with Shaffa, Fitness Expert from TfG.
The programme also included Ask a PT and Physio sessions with Personal Trainer Consultant Yoosuf, giving participants opportunities to focus on recovery, fitness and wellbeing alongside the physical challenge of the races.
By combining movement with mindfulness, recovery and time in nature, the event highlighted the growing connection between sports and wellness within the Maldives tourism experience.
Supporting Sports and Wellness Tourism
The Maldives Hideaway Resort Run is endorsed by Visit Maldives and delivered with support from a number of tourism, aviation, sports and lifestyle partners.
TFG served as race partner, providing race consultation, registration, timing and bib services through TFG Races. Maldivian joined as transport partner, while Coral Glass supported the event as content partner and Sporting Vacanze as agent partner.
Participants received race timing bibs, partner goodie bags and the official Flora & Fauna Greenery Run T-shirt.
The collaboration reflects wider efforts to develop wellness and active travel experiences within the Maldives, adding sporting events to the destination’s established portfolio of beach, marine and luxury resort experiences.
Building a Destination Running Event
Following the inaugural edition in 2025, the Maldives Hideaway Resort Run is continuing to develop as an annual island running and wellness event.
According to Mohamed Muzaffar Ahmed, Business Development Manager of Lily Hotels, the initiative aims to further position the Maldives within the luxury wellness, sports and active travel segments.
The resort has also announced that the 2027 edition is planned as a Visit Maldives Year Edition, with details and the event’s new theme expected to be announced in February 2027.
Although the second edition has concluded, the resort is continuing the experience for guests. Remaining runner kits, including a goodie bag, T-shirt and medal, are expected to be available to resort guests who complete at least a 5K on the official MHRR 2026 route during the year, subject to the resort’s arrangements.
