The Maldives, renowned for its pristine beaches and luxurious resorts, is set to witness several significant resort renovations and temporary closures in 2025. These enhancements aim to elevate guest experiences while maintaining the archipelago’s natural charm. Below is an overview of the planned refurbishments and associated closures:
Soneva Fushi and Soneva Jani
-
Soneva Fushi: Contrary to earlier plans, Soneva Fushi will now remain open throughout June 2025, allowing guests uninterrupted access to its amenities during this period.
-
Soneva Jani: This resort will undergo phased closures for renovations:
- North Jetty: Closed from June 1 to July 1, 2025.
- South Jetty: Closed from August 25 to September 25, 2025.
Kandolhu Maldives
Since 2014, Kandolhu Maldives has been enchanting guests with its intimate setting in the North Ari Atoll. To further enhance its offerings, the resort will temporarily close from June 25 to August 10, 2025. The planned upgrades include general maintenance of villas and public areas, addressing coastal protection challenges, and transforming existing Ocean Villas to offer enhanced luxury—all while preserving the island’s unique spirit.
W Maldives
W Maldives, located on Fesdu Island in the North Ari Atoll, is undergoing a comprehensive transformation. The resort temporarily closed earlier this year for renovations and is scheduled to reopen at the beginning of March, 2025. The refurbishment encompasses redesigned overwater and beach villas, new dining concepts, and a rejuvenated bar scene. Sustainability initiatives include eliminating single-use plastics and installing a bio-gas plant to recycle food waste into organic fertilizer and methane gas.
Mirihi Island Resort
Mirihi Island Resort will temporarily close from May 5 to November 30, 2025, to undergo significant enhancements. Renovations include refreshing villa interiors, upgrading amenities, redesigning the spa, adding a new gym with lagoon views, and introducing an infinity pool. Additionally, four new two-bedroom Water Suites, each featuring a private pool, will be constructed to cater to guests seeking enhanced luxury.
Reethi Beach Resort
Reethi Beach Resort is set to close on April 25, 2025, for a six-month renovation as it transitions into NH Collection Maldives Reethi Resort. This extensive refurbishment—the most significant in the resort’s 25-year history—will include upgrades to villas, dining outlets, and leisure facilities, all while preserving the island’s natural beauty. The resort is expected to reopen in late 2025, offering a mix of on-land and overwater villas, ten distinctive food and beverage outlets, and diverse water and land-based activities.
These planned renovations and temporary closures in 2025 reflect the Maldives’ commitment to continually enhancing its luxury hospitality offerings, ensuring that visitors enjoy unparalleled experiences in this tropical paradise.
