Connecting flights in the Maldives are now faster and more convenient than ever before. With the opening of the new international terminal at Velana International Airport (VIA), transiting between flights—whether international or domestic—is smoother, smarter, and stress-free.
Here’s what you can expect:
TRANSFER DESK – YOUR FIRST STOP
Upon arrival at the terminal, simply follow the signs—or ask any of our friendly Customer Service Agents—to guide you to the Transfer Desk. This is your first point of contact for onward journeys, whether you’re headed to a domestic island, resort, or another international destination.
Once checked in at the Transfer Desk, you’ll receive your boarding pass (if not already issued), and then proceed through Security Check before heading to the departure area.
THROUGH-CHECKED BAGGAGE – LESS TO WORRY ABOUT
If your luggage was checked all the way to your final destination, there’s no need to pick it up upon arrival. Instead, your bags will be automatically transferred to your next flight.
This allows you to travel light through the terminal, saving time and eliminating hassle during your layover.
SECURITY CHECK – FAST AND EFFICIENT
All transiting passengers will pass through a Security Check after completing their transfer check-in. With upgraded equipment and streamlined processes, security screening is faster than ever—keeping you safe while respecting your time.
BEFORE YOU BOARD – RELAX, SHOP, OR DINE
Once you’ve cleared security, you can enjoy all the comforts of the newly designed terminal. Head upstairs to explore the duty-free shopping options, relax with a coffee, or grab a quick bite at one of the airport restaurants.
Just remember:
-
Keep an eye on the Flight Information Displays for updates
-
Be at your boarding gate at least 45 minutes before your flight’s departure
📍 THE OFFICIAL OPENING
All these improvements and services will be available at the new terminal of Velana International Airport from 26 July 2025, coinciding with Maldives Independence Day.
Whether you’re arriving, departing, or transiting — your journey through VIA is about to get a major upgrade.\
