Oaga Art Resort Brings Maldivian Storytelling to the Festive Season with ‘Between Two Lights’

September 17, 2026

This festive season, Oaga Art Resort invites guests to experience Christmas and New Year through the colours, stories and traditions of the Maldives.

For the 2026–2027 festive season, Oaga presents “Between Two Lights”, a programme inspired by Hayeh, the magical blue hour between sunset and night.

Running through Christmas and New Year, the experience brings together Maldivian culture, local art, music, food, wellness, ocean adventures and live performances.

Between the Sun and Moon

Hayeh is the short period when the sun has begun to set and the moon starts to appear. The sea takes on a soft blue and silver glow, creating a peaceful transition between day and night.

This natural moment inspires Oaga’s festive season.

The story also draws from the ancient Maldivian connection between the Sun and Moon. Through art, food, music and storytelling, guests are invited to explore the culture and creative spirit of the islands.

A Story Inspired by Maldivian Culture

The story of the Maldives has always been shaped by the ocean. People travelled between islands, fished the surrounding waters and shared traditions and stories across the Indian Ocean.

Oaga brings these elements into its festive programme through its Suvāsthi creative platform.

Guests can discover performances and experiences featuring Maldivian artists, musicians, performers and craftspeople. The programme includes Boduberu Fusion Nights, live mural art, storytelling, digital art, movement and original performances.

The resort will also introduce the Avi Water Villa from November. Inspired by the energy of the Sun, the villa faces the sunrise. Meanwhile, Odi Water Villa continues the resort’s sunset-inspired accommodation experience, with additional villas and a renewed Moon-inspired character.

From Fire to Tide: Festive Dining

Food is another important part of the Between Two Lights experience.

At Kaa Kada, the atmosphere changes with the light. Daytime brings the bright energy of the Sun, while evenings take on a warmer and more atmospheric Moonlit mood.

Two special dining experiences are at the centre of the programme.

Iru Meyzu, the Sun Table, celebrates the traditions of Maldivian fishermen. The experience features fresh seafood, local produce, island spices and open-fire cooking.

Handhu Meyzu, the Moon Table, offers a slower evening experience. Candlelight, storytelling and flavours inspired by night fishing create a more intimate setting.

Guests can also explore traditional ingredients through spice-making sessions, local tastings and creative cocktail experiences.

Wellness, Ocean Adventures and Island Discovery

The festive programme offers plenty of opportunities to slow down and explore.

At Hoba Spa, guests can enjoy wellness experiences inspired by Hayeh, the space between the Sun and Moon. The programme follows four pathways: Energise, Grounding, Nurture and Recover.

For ocean adventures, Hoara X takes inspiration from the frigate bird and its movement between sky and sea.

Guests can join traditional fishing experiences, sunset journeys, Boduberu at sea and moonlit ocean adventures. Highlights include Iruvai Foarion National Fisherman’s Day and a special Full Moon healing journey on Christmas Eve.

Festive Experiences for Children

Younger guests can discover the island through Fiyoh Club.

The programme includes traditional Maldivian games, nature activities, local crafts, sand art and ocean exploration.

These activities give children an opportunity to learn about the Maldives while enjoying creative and interactive experiences during their holiday.

Christmas and New Year at Oaga Art Resort

Christmas at Oaga focuses on gathering and sharing. Food, stories, music and local traditions create a relaxed island celebration centred around togetherness.

New Year’s Eve follows the theme of Between Two Lights.

The evening begins with a quieter atmosphere inspired by the Moon. As midnight approaches, the island comes alive with live music, performances, movement, visual art and Maldivian creative talent.

The celebration moves from the calm of the Moon into the energy of fire and the first light of a new year.

Guests can also enjoy the Deserted Day Club, an island experience on a nearby sandbank. Music, food, drinks and the ocean create the setting for a relaxed day surrounded by sand, sea and sky.

Experience the Space Between

Oaga Art Resort’s Between Two Lights festive season offers a different way to experience Christmas and New Year in the Maldives.

From the blue hour and moonlit evenings to Maldivian food, local art, ocean adventures and cultural traditions, the programme celebrates the moments between day and night, tradition and creativity, and the familiar and the unexpected.

Located in the North Malé Atoll, Oaga Art Resort is around a 45-minute speedboat journey from Velana International Airport. The homegrown Maldivian resort combines vibrant beach and overwater villas with creative dining, Hoba Spa and cultural experiences created with local artists and craftspeople.
