Patina Maldives, Fari Islands has partnered with internationally recognised designer, artist and vintage collector Sean Wotherspoon for a creative collaboration bringing together art, fashion, colour and marine conservation.

Running from 12 August to 12 September 2026, the collaboration transforms the Fari Artist Atelier into a vibrant creative space featuring original artworks, vintage finds, reworked pieces and an exclusive capsule collection. At its heart is Respect the Reef, a large-scale ceramic fish sculpture created with guests and ultimately returned to the lagoon as part of the reef ecosystem.
Where Art Meets the Maldivian Reef
The collaboration is rooted in a shared focus on respecting and protecting the marine environment.
During his time at Patina Maldives, Sean Wotherspoon explored the surrounding reefs alongside resident marine biologist Nihaan and learned more about the resort’s ongoing conservation initiatives. This inspired a new interpretation of Patina’s existing ceramic coral workshops.
Guests were invited to create individual ceramic scales, adding their own colours and patterns through glazing. These pieces were then brought together to form a large sculptural fish, which has now been submerged in the lagoon surrounding Patina Maldives.
As coral grows across the structure and its surface naturally changes, the artwork will gradually become part of the surrounding reef.
Sean Wotherspoon Brings Colour to Patina Maldives
Known for his distinctive use of colour, texture and vintage-inspired storytelling, Sean Wotherspoon has also created an exclusive collection for the resort.

The capsule collection features apparel, accessories and one-of-a-kind vintage pieces, inspired by the colours, textures and energy of the Maldives. His creative approach extends into the Fari Artist Atelier, where guests can discover the collection alongside original artworks, vintage ephemera and curated objects.
The result is an experience that connects contemporary creativity with the distinctive character of the Maldivian islands.
The Fari Artist Atelier Reimagined
Throughout the collaboration, the Fari Artist Atelier offers guests an opportunity to explore Sean Wotherspoon’s creative world while discovering the story behind Respect the Reef.
The project reflects Patina Maldives’ wider creative philosophy, which brings together artists, designers, musicians and cultural voices while encouraging guests to engage with their surroundings in unexpected ways.
What makes the collaboration particularly distinctive is its lasting connection to the natural environment. The artwork does not simply remain inside a gallery or studio. Instead, it continues to evolve underwater as coral grows and the reef develops around it.
Creativity That Gives Back to the Ocean
Respect the Reef represents the essence of the collaboration: creativity created by many hands, inspired by the Maldives and ultimately given back to the ocean.

For guests, the experience offers more than an opportunity to discover contemporary art and fashion. It creates a meaningful connection between creativity, community and marine conservation — reflecting Patina Maldives’ approach to transformative luxury.
