In a quiet corner of the Maldives, where clear waters kiss sunlit shores, the Fari Islands are carving out a new kind of paradise-one that balances barefoot luxury with bold environmental ambition
Home to renowned resorts like The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, Patina Maldives, and the island’s vibrant Fari Campus, this four-island destination is doing more than just hosting travelers. It’s reimagining what it means to travel responsibly-without compromising the experience.
Powering the Islands with the Sun
By 2025, solar energy at Fari Islands will see a threefold boost, reaching a total capacity of 6.4 MWp. That means, on a bright day, nearly half of the islands’ energy needs will be powered by the sun. It’s not just a technical upgrade-it’s a shift in mindset.
From the beginning, the vision for Fari Islands was clear: blend world-class hospitality with conscious development. Instead of building the traditional way, villas were prefabricated using eco-friendly timber, minimizing disruption to the surrounding marine life. Even their flat-roofed architecture was chosen with purpose-to seamlessly integrate solar panels while keeping things sleek and sustainable.
Floating Solar? Yes, Really.
In collaboration with solar pioneers Swimsol, the islands are now building one of the region’s largest marine solar projects. Just off the coast of Fari Campus, floating platforms fitted with over 2,000 solar panels will soon glide over the ocean, generating nearly a quarter of the archipelago’s electricity on their own. It’s innovation, set adrift in crystal-clear waters
Meanwhile, on land, the community’s energy transformation continues. Fari Campus-home to staff and designed around community living-has been fitted with new solar panels across 19 buildings. It’s proof that sustainability here isn’t just a showpiece—it’s integrated into daily life.
Leading Resorts, Shared Values
At The Ritz-Carlton Maldives, sustainability goes far beyond good intentions. With solar panels now lining the rooftops of its Ocean Villas, restaurants, and even the dive center, the resort is walking the talk. It’s also earned prestigious global recognitions for its commitment to the environment and local communities.
Over at Patina Maldives, solar power has become the main act. By the end of 2025, the resort expects to run entirely on solar during daylight hours. With nearly 3,000 kWp of solar panels, backed by state-of-the-art battery systems, Patina is showing that luxury can absolutely be planet-friendly
Not Just a Place-A Promise
Fari Islands isn’t just a postcard-perfect destination. It’s a community with purpose-where every detail, from construction materials to energy systems, has been chosen with care. There’s a feeling here that your stay is contributing to something bigger.
And that’s the beauty of it. You’re not just soaking up the sun-you’re part of a story that’s changing how we explore the world.
