In the calm of a moonlit night at Ellaidhoo Maldives by Cinnamon, something remarkable happened-a tiny Hawksbill turtle, born with only three flippers, made her way to the sea. They named her Tripod. Against the odds, she didn’t just survive-she stayed. Now, she’s a familiar face (or rather, shell) along the house reef and a quiet symbol of resilience that continues to inspire both guests and locals.
To celebrate World Sea Turtle Day, Tripod’s story came to life in a new way. Guests were invited to gather under the stars for the first screening of a short animated film about her journey. Set on the island’s beach, with the ocean just a few steps away, the event turned into a beautiful reminder of why we need to care for the world beneath the waves.
The night also included a talk by the resort’s marine biologist, who shared insights about sea turtles in the Maldives and the fragile ecosystems they rely on. It was eye-opening. From coral restoration to turtle research, Ellaidhoo’s conservation work became something real and relatable-not just something happening behind the scenes, but something guests could see and even take part in.
There was even a creative surprise. A new line of Tripod-themed T-shirts was launched at the resort boutique. Simple, meaningful, and directly tied to conservation, these limited-edition shirts give guests a way to support the cause-and take home something that tells a story.
Near the Marine Biology Unit, a new interactive display has been added, where guests can learn more about Tripod’s journey and record their own sightings if they’re lucky enough to spot her gliding through the reef. It’s a quiet, personal way to connect with the ocean-and a reminder that protecting it begins with awareness.
World Sea Turtle Day came and went, but Tripod’s presence is a daily reminder of what can happen when nature is given the space to thrive.
