This festive season, Vakkaru Maldives invites guests to discover a celebration inspired by the legendary Silk Road. From 13 December 2026 to 9 January 2027, the resort will bring together festive dining, cultural experiences, wellness, family activities and island adventures.

Set within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll, Vakkaru Maldives combines the beauty of the Indian Ocean with a festive programme inspired by the historic connections between East and West.
A Festive Journey Inspired by the Silk Road
For centuries, the Silk Road connected people and cultures across continents. Silk, tea, spices and precious stones travelled along these routes, together with traditions, stories and ideas.

This spirit of discovery inspires Vakkaru’s festive season.
Throughout the programme, guests can experience dining inspired by different cultures, live entertainment, wellness activities and family experiences. The resort also offers opportunities to explore the marine environment of Baa Atoll through diving, snorkelling and other island adventures.
Christmas by the Indian Ocean
The celebrations begin on 17 December with Vakkaru’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony and anniversary celebration at Vakku Beach.
Music, Maldivian Boduberu and family activities set the tone for the festive season.
On Christmas Eve, guests can join a guided turtle snorkelling excursion before enjoying cocktails at Isoletta Beach. The evening continues with a Christmas Eve Gala Dinner on Vakku Beach, featuring festive classics, fresh seafood and international flavours.
Christmas Day brings more experiences on and beneath the water. Guests can join a guided house reef dive or a yacht cruise to see dolphins. Later in the morning, Santa arrives at Vakku Beach for a special celebration.
A World of Flavours
Food is an important part of Vakkaru’s Silk Road-inspired programme.
Guests can discover a variety of international flavours throughout the festive season. Experiences include Korean barbecue, Nikkei-inspired menus, Spanish tapas and paella, Southeast Asian cuisine and lobster dinners by the sea.
At Vakkaru Reserve, wine experiences move beyond the cellar with sunset tastings on the sandbank.
Guests can also take part in mixology classes and cooking experiences, followed by evenings of music and cocktails.
For those who want to explore beyond the resort, diving, snorkelling and family marine activities offer a chance to experience the natural beauty of Baa Atoll.
Following the Silk Road into the New Year
The Silk Road theme continues through the New Year celebrations.
At Parrotfish Club, younger guests can explore themed activities inspired by the ancient routes, the Far East, world music and the sea.
Activities include map-making, batik and a Silk Route Fashion Parade on New Year’s Eve.
The main celebration takes place at Vakku Beach with the New Year’s Eve Gala: The Silk Road Journey.
An international feast inspired by the Silk Road is paired with live music, dance and performances. At midnight, fireworks light up the sky as guests welcome 2027 on the shores of Baa Atoll.
New Year’s Day begins with a celebratory brunch at Amaany. Certified divers can also make their first dive of 2027 in the waters around the island.
Wellness at Merana Spa
The festive season also brings a renewed focus on wellbeing at Merana Spa.
Japanese holistic practitioner Yoko Kawaguchi returns to Vakkaru Maldives for her second residency of 2026.
Her personalised approach combines techniques such as auriculotherapy, aromatherapy, Reiki energy healing and targeted massage.
Guests can choose from treatments including Auriculotherapy for Holistic Wellbeing, Chakra Balance, Japanese Reiki Infusion, Deep Back Release Massage and Silent Mind Ritual.
Complimentary consultations and selected wellness sessions will also be available during the residency.
Celebrations Continue into Orthodox Christmas
The festive journey does not end with New Year’s Day.
Vakkaru Maldives continues its celebrations into January with a programme leading up to Orthodox Christmas.
Families can enjoy Russian New Year traditions, including themed tree activities and Matryoshka-inspired experiences.
On 6 January, guests can welcome Ded Moroz, the traditional Slavic Father Frost. The evening continues with an Orthodox Christmas cocktail party and Gala Dinner on Vakku Beach, complete with a festive buffet, live music and entertainment.
